News and other events

This year I will be involved in watercolour art classes, art workshop days, an art holiday and art on cruise ships.

Art Classes

My fortnightly watercolour classes in the Broadwoodkelly Village Hall are in their sixth year. I now run two sessions on Wednesday and Thursday mornings, from 10.30am to 1pm. They are suitable for beginners and those wanting to improve and experiment with different methods. There are still a couple of places on Thursday classes; if you’d like to join please contact me.

Art Days
One again Castle Drogo, the National Trust property near Chagford, have asked me to run some art days: 21st June (Atmospheric Skies), 27th September (Woods and Forests), 8th November Winter Moorland). They look after us very well at the Visitor Centre, welcoming us with a drink and the largest piece of shortbread I’ve ever seen, then later serve us a delicious 2-course lunch and there is tea and coffee throughout the day. To book one of these days please contact

Art Holiday
An exciting new venture is tutoring an art holiday. Details are not completely finalised yet but it will be in the last week of July at Halsbeer Farm, Kentisbeare, Devon. The attractive barns have been turned into comfortable self-catering accommodation and the room we’ll use for painting is large and light. On warm sunny days there is a verandah looking down onto a pond and over to the fields. Kentisbeare is on the edge of the Blackdowns and there are some lovely views to paint nearby, along with some good places to eat.

Art at sea
I am booked to do three cruises this year with Cruise and Maritime, a company which sails on smaller ships from British ports (so no flying involved) to some truly breath-taking destinations. The art sessions are held everyday the ship is at sea and the idea is for people to enjoy themselves without the pressure of producing a ‘masterpiece’. 16th to 31st March I’m on mv Magellan going to the Canaries and Madeira, plus visits to Amsterdam, Gibraltar and Lisbon. Then from 28th July to 18th August I’m on mv Marco Polo for a voyage to Iceland and Greenland (hoping for a chance to paint an iceberg or two!). And lastly, 17th to 31st October on mv Astoria I’m going to Norway with hopefully a chance to see the North Lights. For more details on these cruises go to
